As we have seen these torrenting websites need to go through a lot since it is providing copyrighted content to the users for free, they have to go through lawsuits and even change their domain names if the original ones are hacked or blocked by the ISPs. One thing in common, most of the torrenting websites resort to changing its domain name in case of seizure. In case of Demonoid in order to avoid seizure from the US government, it resorted to change its domain name from .com to .me address on 2nd December 2010. So changing the domain name was the most chosen option by these torrent king websites in case of seizures or hackings.
Demonoid has done this change more than once. On April 27th, 2012 that is two years after from changing its domain name to escape a seizure from US government, Demonoid again made changes in its domain name and changed it from .me to .ph. But on June 15th 2012, Demonoid Proxy changed its domain name from .ph and again came back to using its previous domain name with .me. But this didn’t last over a week and Demonoid again resorted to .ph domain name. In February 2019 an official statement was made that the access to the domain demonoid.pw was lost and users were requested to stop visiting the site.
There were no proxies or alternatives available and those available were only the sites that merely copied the content and provided to the users. The site faced various shutdowns which were temporary but it also revived after a few days. The longest temporary shutdown faced in the torrenting industry was of 2 years after which Demonoid Proxy came back. In 2007 Deimos the owner of the Demonoid website passed a statement officially that it was facing monetary problems but the main issue was hosting problems referring to finding a suitable place to host the website. Demonoid being the oldest torrenting websites have seen lots of ups and downs in its path and whenever it has been shut down it always made a comeback. So it just got more fame every time it has a comeback and every time it went missing the users had faith in its comeback.
But the fate had something else for Demonoid. Suddenly the owner of Demonoid Deimos went missing. Later it was confirmed that the owner of Demonoid had passed away. This was heartbreaking news for all Demonoid fans that once waited with hope for its comeback. The staff members wanted to revive the Demonoid family and hence with the help of previous designers a new website was launched in memory of Demonoid. Dnoud.to was born with the skin of Demonoid to give a home-like feel to the Demonoid fans. Its main aim wasn’t to replace Demonoid but to provide a new website to Demonoid users having the same skin as Demonoid but everything new under the hoodie for the users that is new links for the users to browse and share.
